What is the “GAPS”™ diet and how can it help you?
GAPS™ is an acronym for Gut and Psychology Syndrome, a book written by neurologist and nutritionist, Dr. Natasha McBride.
The name “Gut and Psychology Syndrome”™ can be a bit misleading. Many people are actually put off by the name, particularly if you don’t have an indication of any brain ailment.
However, when you read the scientific evidence presented in this book, you will begin to understand the strong relationship between the gut and many common health problems in our society today. Healing your gut is foundational to restoring and building a body that is well.
Hippocrates, the father of medicine, firmly believed this in 460BC. He stated that, “All disease begins in the gut”. This is essentially the premise of the GAPS™ program. With approximately 85% of the body’s immune cells located in the gut and almost 90% of the body’s total number of cells being gut microflora, it is clear that a strong gut is foundation for overall health. Likewise, a damage gut can have profound impact on all areas of the human body. The GAPS diet addresses the root causes of a large number of physiological and psychological conditions that affect children and adults alike, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, asthma, allergies, arthritis, and a wide range of chronic digestive conditions. By healing the gut with the GAPS diet, individuals can find relief from these chronic health conditions as well as many others. With a strong and healthy gut, GAPS patients can restore their bodies to a state of health and wellness.
